I am a
music lover who dreams of hearing my stories come to life on the radio. If I
can write songs that touch people's hearts the way that so many great
songwriters and artists have touched mine, I will have achieved my musical
mission.
While I would love to be a successful lyricist writing big hits, I won't be giving up my day job any time soon--mainly because I LOVE my day job! I'm a full-time instructor at Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield, Missouri, where I teach a college success course I developed a few years ago. I'm thrilled that I can help my students realize their dreams by giving them the tools to create the life they want. In the process, they've inspired and encouraged me to pursue my songwriting. I'm fortunate to have a career that gives me such joy and allows me to make a difference every day. OTC is a great place to work, and my colleagues have been extremely supportive of my songwriting efforts.
Before going back to college to get my master's degree in English, I was in the advertising and PR business, working my way from temporary receptionist at an ad agency all the way up to staff copywriter, where I learned how to use language creatively and concisely to appeal to the audience's needs and emotions. I'd say that was a great foundation for songwriting!
